Busy Bee – New White Town Singles

I’ve been mad busy the last couple of weeks, mastering album tracks and also making pop vids. It’s been hectic!

For this album, I’m planning to release a vid for every track on the album. It’s partly because people only seem to share YouTube links for music now and partly because I want to push myself further as a film-maker and this is an excellent way to do it.

Here’s the first one (excluding ‘Cut Out My Heart‘ which I made last year):

‘Missing Her Again’ is a track I wrote way back in 1987. I decided to re-visit it for this album as it seems to fit my life again in lots of ways, sadly. I recorded a version way back then and it’s funny listening to my voice with a different, younger timbre.

And here’s the one I stuck up yesterday:

This song is a year old and it comes out of a similar place to ‘Missing Her Again’ in that it’s a love song written about someone who isn’t around any more. Here’s a more detailed explanation from a Facebook exchange I had:

And I filmed another vid with my friend Laura on Tuesday. I’ve got a little production line going! 🙂

New Song And Video – ‘Cut Out My Heart’

Hello! Although I’ve been doing a lot of moping and licking my wounds, I’ve also been busy with music. And video! Check out what I’ve been up to:

I shot the vid on my lovely 5Dmk 2 and finished the edit (in iMovie) this Monday night, around 3.30am. So, it’s hot off the… er… Mac Pro?

The song pretty much sums up where I am now, it’s a snapshot of my emoness, I’ve just snuggled that negativity in quite an upbeat-sounding wrapper. It’s from my new album which should be coming out some time in early ’11.

Thanks to Kelly and Nat for agreeing to star in it and braving the cold!

Elizabeth Allo Darlin’ Singing ‘Your Woman’

If you’ve been paying close attention, you will have read my ramble about playing a totally acoustic gig at The Hangover Lounge recently.

Well, here’s a little video of Elizabeth from Allo Darlin’ and I practising for when she sang ‘Your Woman’ in my set. Hope you like it, despite the gormy faces I’m making! 🙂

Stockholm Boat Session

Here’s me singing ‘Death In Kettering’ totally acoustically on a ferry in Stockholm. Yep, my life is strange! And often wonderful! 🙂

Earth Hour 2009 Video

I made a little video last night during Earth Hour. I was going to do it in candlelight but I thought these fellers might be more fun! The music is a new instrumental that’ll be on my next album. Hope you like it! 🙂

Make The World Go Away – The Popvid!

Yes! It’s 4.48am now and around forty minutes ago, I finished editing the first popvid I’ve made in… well, since the original 1990 White Town Super 8 grainfest.

On the plus side: non-linear edting is much easier than a razor blade and sellotape.

On the minus side: iMovie HD kept crashing about every four minutes so I had to keep saving every three or so. That was a pain in the arse!

I’m quie pleased with how it’s turned out. It’s obviously a bit rubbish as it’s the first time I’ve written and made a popvid with a story (the ‘Your Woman’-era ones were all by the godlike Mark Adcock) but hopefully I’ll get better with experience.

Thanks to Ash who gamely agreed to let me order him around, drive us about and scramble over rubble. He’s a trooper!

Have a click above to watch the vid! 😀

Video for ‘Theme For A BBC Natural History Series…’

Yaaay! My mate Ian has very kindly made this short video for the instrumental ‘Theme For A BBC Natural History Series Presented By Richard Dawkins,’ off my new album. It’s lovely!
